About The Position
The Community Services Department is seeking a full-time Housing Program Specialist, Senior to join their team in Santa Barbara, CA. This position plays a crucial role in coordinating, implementing, and maintaining various housing and homelessness assistance programs at the federal, state, and local levels. The incumbent will work under general direction and will be responsible for programs such as the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Continuum of Care, Emergency Solutions Grant, and the Youth Homeless Demonstration Program. The role involves facilitating public meetings, ensuring compliance with regulations, and acting as a lead worker to provide technical expertise and training to staff. The Housing Program Specialist, Senior is distinguished from the Housing Program Specialist I/II by its advanced journey-level responsibilities, including the coordination of major housing and community development programs and the performance of complex professional-level work that requires independent judgment and initiative. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, and will be adept at facilitating community and stakeholder meetings. They should be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team, contributing positively and assisting others as needed. The role requires the ability to validate and interpret data to produce detailed reports that align with outcome goals and measures. Candidates should have prior experience in city or county government programs related to housing and homelessness, as well as experience presenting complex issues to government officials and stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, is essential, along with a flexible and adaptable work style. The ability to coordinate large community events, such as census or population counts, is also a key aspect of this position.
