About The Position

The Housing Navigator plays a crucial role in connecting homeless and imminently at-risk individuals and families with permanent housing opportunities in Kent County. This position involves extensive outreach and education regarding available subsidies, security deposit assistance, and various prevention resources. The Housing Navigator serves as a general housing resource for all agencies within Kent County's Continuum of Care, ensuring that individuals and families have access to the necessary support and information to secure stable housing. In this role, the Housing Navigator will network with local housing resources and maintain a presence at relevant meetings to actively recruit and build relationships with landlords and property managers. This is essential for expanding housing options available to clients. The Navigator will also establish, update, and maintain a comprehensive list of available housing opportunities, assisting in community outreach efforts to connect individuals and families with housing search support and direction. The position requires the Housing Navigator to act as a liaison for provider and community partner agencies, utilizing the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) portal to follow the intake, assessment, and referral processes. Knowledge of HUD Standards (HQS) is necessary to assist participants and expedite the inspection process. The Navigator will prepare materials for presentations to realtors, property managers, and property owners, providing information on services while addressing any concerns. Additionally, the Housing Navigator will consult with assigned case managers and participants to identify housing barriers and needs, assisting in the successful completion of established housing plans. They will also support landlords and property managers in fulfilling program requirements and mediate any disputes between landlords and tenants. Maintaining case records and statistical data of consumer participation is essential, along with completing required reports and program outcome information. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
