The Navigation Supervisor is responsible for supporting and motivating approximately 5-7 Navigators and will maintain a small caseload as needed. This position is responsible for ensuring that the Navigation team performs ongoing needs assessments, assistance with personal housing plans, advocacy, and support to individuals as needed. This position requires strong leadership skills and will collaborate with the Regional Director overseeing Navigation services to identify problems/obstacles and create solutions. This position will ensure that the team is practicing trauma-informed and client-focused strategies.

  • Housing Navigation
  • Maintain a caseload of 5-7 clients and meet with clients based on their needs
  • Demonstrate leadership and team building qualities to implement mission, ensure quality services and core values of the agency
  • Utilize harm reduction interventions and methodologies to provide client centered services.
  • Utilize skills regarding crisis prevention and intervention
  • Assist clients to build their strengths and recognize their needs in a respectful manner
  • Be knowledgeable of community resources and refer clients as needed
  • Keep accurate, up to date casefiles including documentation on all clients, including but not limited to individual service plans and case notes in Cal Optima Connect, etc.
  • Facilitate regular case conferencing meetings to ensure clear communication with shelter operations teams and collaborate around challenging client cases
  • Complete all paperwork in a timely and accurate manner that ensures payment to the agency from various sources
  • Team Management
  • Supervise approximately 5-7 Navigators in a way that facilitates their optimal performance
  • Train and direct new Navigators and assist them with day-to-day questions relating to the completion of their job assignments
  • Oversee quality control of case files on a quarterly basis to ensure accurate, up to date documentation on all clients, including but not limited to Individual service plans and case notes
  • Assist with problem solving and guiding Navigators who are dealing with difficult cases
  • Coordinate training and orientations as needed
  • Meet with identified staff individually and facilitate team meetings, bi-monthly or as needed
  • Conduct 90-day probation and annual reviews for case managers
  • Approve Absence from Work requests
  • Approve and monitor monthly mileage reimbursement requests
  • Receive, review, and process financial assistance requests as needed
  • Oversee the consistency of documentation standards set forth by the program contract and program policies
  • Oversee accurate and complete data into HMIS and CES
  • Maintain a positive, professional, and safe work environment while on duty, and establish/maintain effective working relationships with others

  • Assist Emergency Shelter’s Program Manager in overseeing the day-to-day operations in Manager’s absence
  • Attend staff meetings and community meetings as assigned by the Program Manager or Regional Director
  • Attend trainings that increase knowledge of meeting clients’ needs in an effective manner
  • Lead Navigation Teams in aiding shelter operations duties in collaboration with Shelter Program Managers when needed
  • Possess a willingness to gain knowledge and understanding of Adult Rehabilitative, Mental Health Services and Substance Abuse Treatments, etc.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field or equivalent experience
  • At least 1 year of experience working with homeless individuals and individuals living with mental health conditions
  • Individuals with less than a BA/BS degree but with at least 2 years of direct life experience working with long-term homeless, low income, and diverse populations and have a working knowledge of mental health and recovery are welcome to apply
  • Possess a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals who present for services with urgent multiple case management and health needs
  • Ability to perform crisis intervention as needed
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organization and time-management skills
  • Ability to maintain a positive and professional environment while on duty
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully both verbally and in written form
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift, bend, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Reliable transportation
  • Management experience preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish is of significant value
