About The Position

This position is responsible for: accepting and processing residents staying in the shelter and maintaining accurate records containing pertinent information. Prepares, cooks and serves meals in accordance with established guidelines and schedules.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year experience performing security work or working in a social service environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Knowledge of general office procedures and practices
• Ability to communicate effectively with residents to control, lead and motivate behavior
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision while enforcing established policies and procedures
• Ability to meet attendance requirements
• Ability to read, write and communicate the English language
• Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initating the proper corrective action
• Knowledge of proper cooking methods and proceures
• Ability to cook nutritional and safe food for large groups in a timely manner
• Work requires the ability to lift and carry moderately heavy materials, supplies and equipment
• Ability to cook, taste and smell food
• Work requires performance of duties in social services environment where exposure to communicable and infectious diseases are possible

Responsibilities

• Maintaining accurate records containing pertinent information
• Prepares, cooks and serves meals in accordance with established guidelines and schedules
• Checks residents into the shelter
• Prepares and monitors clients and maintains resident records
• Monitors the activities of the shelter residents ensuring safety and compliance with house rules
• Checks the security and makes periodic rounds of the entire facility
• Answers the phone and responds to questions regarding the shelter operations
• Prepares, cooks and serves food in a presental be manner
• Cleans and maintains the appearance of kitchen and dining facilities
