The Housing Counselor, in partnership with the Family Services Manager, is responsible for the growth of all Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH) programs throughout Wayne & Ontario counties with respect to affordable homeownership. With the program framework largely established in Monroe County, the ideal candidate is a highly performing and motivated individual who will be entrusted to lead program expansion efforts into new communities across Wayne & Ontario County. The Housing Counselor will work to ensure the success of our program participants while focusing on what is in the best interest of the organization with respect to its goals, mission, and values.

  • In partnership with the Family Services Manager, is responsible for the daily operations of Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity (GRHFH) programs operating in both Ontario & Wayne Counties, including but not limited to Homebuyer, Homeward Bound, and Critical Home Repair.
  • Responsible for applicant recruitment, applicant intake meetings, and document processing for area specific GRHFH programs; regularly coordinating and presenting at community events as needed.
  • Provides housing counseling to GRHFH partners and oversees their progress for their duration of the program. This includes utilization of affiliate CRM to track all client outcomes as directed.
  • Supports the Family Services Manager on all Ontario & Wayne County home sales, preparing loan referral packages, ensuring client compliance and readiness.
  • Maintains certifications and continued education requirements related to the position, including but not limited to QLO & HUD housing certification.
  • Tracks, measures, and records program progress with close attention to required milestones set forth by the affiliate.
  • In partnership with the entire Family Services department; plan & conduct financial literacy workshops as scheduled.
  • Is responsible for attending to calls & drop-ins at our Canandaigua office as they relate to program service inquiries across Wayne & Ontario Counties.
  • Provide a consistent, high level of service and protection to clients' sensitive and personal information while supporting affiliate compliance within the complicated landscape of affordable housing, and anti-discrimination laws.
  • Proactively manages workload, calendar, and client appointments to help meet the goals of the organization and serve clients effectively.
  • Maintains performance and quality standards based on established department metrics including turn-around times.
  • Support and participate in special event days.
  • Help market and participate in annual fundraising events.
  • Serve on internal and community-based committees that relate to the performance of this position as needed.
  • Other duties and projects assigned.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships and work with people from a wide variety of social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Applications. Salesforce experience is a plus.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, accuracy, high attention to detail, and thoroughness.
  • Ability to operate efficiently and quickly in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of affordable housing and economic self-sufficiency barriers, and relevant community resources.
  • Associate's degree in human services, social work, banking, or related field AND at least one (1) years' experience working with an at-risk population preferred. OR three (3) years' related experience as described above.
  • Ability to obtain a Qualified Loan Originator certification and willingness to renew annually required.
  • Must pass the HUD certified housing counseling exam within 6 months of hire or provide certificate if already attained.
  • Program coordination experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written Spanish strongly preferred.
