About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: The Environmental Services (EVS) Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout Muenster Hospital District. This role involves performing cleaning and disinfecting duties, managing waste, and ensuring infection control practices are followed. The EVS Technician will support the hospital's mission, vision, and values by adhering to high cleanliness standards that promote patient safety and comfort. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent preferred. Experience:  Previous experience in housekeeping, janitorial work, or healthcare environmental services preferred but not required. Skills and Abilities:  Knowledge of cleaning practices, infection control standards, and proper handling of cleaning agents and disinfectants.  Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently.  Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.  Good communication skills and a commitment to teamwork. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Mobility:  Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.  Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.  Flexibility to reach, bend, kneel, and use manual dexterity for cleaning tasks. WORKING CONDITIONS:  Work is performed in various hospital environments, including patient rooms, emergency areas, and public spaces.  Exposure to cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and waste materials is frequent.  May require shifts on evenings, weekends, or holidays based on hospital needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Cleaning and Sanitization:  Clean and disinfect patient rooms, restrooms, public areas, offices, and common spaces according to hospital standards.  Follow specific cleaning protocols for infection control, especially in high-risk and isolation areas.  Perform daily cleaning, including dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and waste disposal. Waste Management:  Collect, segregate, and dispose of general and biohazard waste according to regulatory and hospital guidelines.  Handle hazardous materials following safety and infection control procedures. Restocking and Supply Management:  Replenish supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, and hand sanitizer in all hospital areas.  Stock cleaning carts with necessary supplies and ensure all cleaning equipment is in working condition. Floor Care and Maintenance:  Perform routine floor care duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and spot cleaning.  Maintain hard floors by buffing, stripping, and waxing as required.  Clean carpets using extraction or shampoo methods as needed. Laundry Services:  Collect, sort, and launder hospital linens, scrubs, patient gowns, and other fabrics.  Operate and maintain laundry equipment, ensuring items are cleaned, dried, and folded according to hospital standards.  Inspect linens for wear and damage, and report the need for replacement or repair to the supervisor.  Distribute clean linens and towels to hospital departments as needed. Infection Control Compliance:  Adhere to hospital infection control practices, especially for cleaning in patient care and isolation areas.  Follow safety protocols to prevent cross-contamination and uphold patient and staff safety. Documentation and Reporting:  Complete daily cleaning logs and report any incidents, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.  Document completed tasks according to hospital standards and policies. Support for Hospital Events and Special Requests:  Assist in setting up and cleaning up for hospital events, meetings, and health fairs.  Respond to special cleaning requests promptly and efficiently. Additional Duties:  Attend monthly departmental meetings and in-service training as requested.  Participate in annual evaluations and performance improvement initiatives.  Perform any other duties as assigned to support the EVS department.
