About The Position

An Environmental Service Supervisor plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This position involves both administrative and hands-on responsibilities, ensuring that the hospital adheres to strict health, safety, and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Technician (T-CHEST): This certification focuses on training EVS leaders to deliver cleaning and disinfection training to their teams.
  • Supervisory/Leadership Experience: Requires at least 1-3 years of experience in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to foster a positive and cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback constructively.
  • The position requires sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication.
  • Clear and effective communication is essential, as is the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation and monitors, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes, such as identifying medications or safety indicators.
  • Tactile perception is also important for assessing physical characteristics such as temperature, size, shape, or texture during patient care.
  • Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures.
  • The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment.
  • Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift.
  • The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety.

  • Experience in a hospital or healthcare setting is highly preferred due to the unique cleaning standards, infection control protocols, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, OSHA, CDC, CMS, DNV).

Responsibilities

  • Ability to manage, prioritize, and assign tasks to staff effectively.
  • Strong team leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluation skills.
  • Ability to train new employees and provide ongoing development.
  • Thorough knowledge of cleaning processes, sanitation standards, and disinfection techniques
  • Understanding of infection control policies and procedures in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance (OSHA, Department of Health, Joint Commission, CDC, CMS, DNV guidelines).
  • Inventory management for supplies and equipment.
  • Ability to analyze and recommend workflow changes for efficiency.
  • Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn specific hospital software (e.g., bed management software like Epic).
  • Customer service orientation to address patient and staff concerns promptly.
  • Ability to conduct thorough quality inspections and ensure adherence to standards.
  • Commitment to maintaining a high level of cleanliness and safety.
  • Coordinating EVS activities with other hospital departments (e.g., nursing, patient transport, facilities maintenance) to ensure smooth operations and meet patient needs
