The listed pay range or pay rate reflects compensation for a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) position. Actual compensation may differ depending on assigned hours and position status (e.g., part-time). Position Overview SUMMARY (Basic Purpose of the Job) Ensures safety functions are in compliance with department, facility, and regulatory agency safety policies and procedures. Demonstrates efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment and ensures smooth operations. Recognizes and appropriately responds to situations or issues that require communication or interaction with other departments or patients. Manages the Environmental Services Program within the facility to maintain the highest quality possible and ensures good public relations with all people involved with a focus on the facility's patients. Attains a high level of technical knowledge for the equipment, chemicals and programs utilized.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Two years experience in environmental services in a supervisory role.
  • Strong work ethic, intense drive, and initiative for quality and customer service.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good listening and empathy skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Handles chemicals and solutions per departmental and material safety data sheets and standards.
  • Ensures all chemicals are properly labeled at all times and uses each chemical for its intended use.
  • Adheres to safety regulations as outlined in departmental policies, facility and JCAHO guidelines.
  • Stocks service and equipment areas and ensures these areas are kept clean at all times and in good running order.
  • Instructs and trains employees in the proper use of new equipment and cleaning products and procedures to ensure safety and compliance with department standards and regulatory agencies.
  • Performs daily maintenance of departmental programs and trains staff according to department policy.
  • Handles substandard equipment and supplies and puts them out of service.
  • Reports equipment in need of repair and any unsafe conditions to director, operations manager, or maintenance.
  • Tags and reports these items for repair or return to ensure safe products for staff to work with at all times.
  • Submits a work order to appropriate departments as needed.
  • Identifies and exercises discretion and judgement when resolving interpersonal conflicts constructively when dealing with members of the organization.
  • Deals with missed service proactively.
  • Displays patience and tact when dealing with other hospital personnel.
  • Contacts supervisor daily to discuss problems or concerns and seeks to resolve those issues quickly.
  • Acts as a liaison with all shifts.
  • Notes communication problems with peers or managers and handles as needed.
  • Prepares, revises, and reviews daily work schedules.
  • Presents department in a positive manner to visitors, patients, and other hospital personnel.
  • Exercise's positive work ethics by seeking additional responsibilities and assignments without having to be asked.
  • Utilizes appropriate departmental chain of command to resolve complaints, grievances, or problems.
  • Transports items of need to the maintenance department.
  • Reports all pertinent information to the operations manager.
  • Provides adequate notice of absence to the operations manager one hour prior to beginning of shift.
  • Meets reasonable requests within hospital in a timely manner.
  • Gives the department a positive reputation for excellent customer service.
  • Possesses ability to work out detailed plans with possible alternatives that maximize effectiveness department.
  • Demonstrates effective use of delegation that involves planning, action, and review.
  • Checks all assigned areas frequently to ensure personnel are performing work and following work schedules.
  • Reacts appropriately to noted observations and reinforces behavior through either praise or corrective action.
  • Reviews employees standards of performance and completes evaluations and documents areas needing improvement.
  • Addresses performance issues with staff on a timely basis.
  • Retrains employees every six months on JCAHO, state, facility and department requirements.
  • Engages self most of the time out of office in an effort to inspect activity on the floors and to follow up with department employees.
  • Exhibits satisfactory completion of all job assignments and tasks without the need of overtime unless approved by a manager.
  • Starts shift on time and arranges for assigned areas to have adequate coverage at all times.
  • Schedules staff for all assigned areas and is alert for ways to improve them.
  • Demonstrates outstanding decision making skills in all situations.
  • Inspires confidence in subordinates and peers and has a high regard for staff.
  • Maintains at all times a high standard of personal appearance to housekeeping staff.
  • Ensures that all reports and memos are well written and submitted on a timely basis.
  • Performs administrative duties according to policy in a timely manner including routine discharges, patient interviews, and ISIS inspections according to the departmental goals.
  • Has access to medication storage areas for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
