About The Position

The Appalachian Mountain Club is now seeking to fill the role of a hands-on Head Housekeeper at our busy Pinkham Notch location in Gorham, NH. Founded in 1876, the AMC (www.outdoors.org) is the oldest conservation, education, and recreation organization in the United States. The AMC promotes the protection, enjoyment, and wise use of the mountains, rivers, and trails of the Appalachian region. The AMC encourages the involvement of all people in its mission and activities, through its membership, programs, policies, and procedures. This full-time year-round, benefited position is a tremendous opportunity for anyone with a background in housekeeping and who enjoys leading and working as part of a team. This position will help to build a positive culture among a small group of hardworking housekeepers located at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s base of operations in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of housekeeping experience, including a minimum of 1 year in a lead or supervisory role
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Prior experience in the hospitality industry
  • Knowledge of commercial cleaning practices and standards
  • Must be willing to work weekend, holidays, and evenings
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm about AMC’s mission and its programs

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for overall cleanliness and functioning of Joe Dodge Lodge.
  • Support the General Manager and Assistant Manager in overseeing campus-wide custodial and grounds operations.
  • Serve in a hands-on leadership role, actively contributing to daily tasks while leading the team and filling in as needed.
  • Lead, train, schedule and evaluate housekeeping team.
  • Hire new employees as needed.
  • Provide active supervision during shifts, offering clear communication, direction, and motivation to support team success.
  • Daily laundry/linen operations.
  • Order all supplies, maintain all equipment, and keep a complete inventory of all items required for operation in the housekeeping and custodial areas.
  • Collaborate with the General Manager to support budgeting priorities for housekeeping and custodial operations, aligning with sustainability goals.
  • Work with both the Purchasing and Logistics Manager and Kitchen Staff to support successful on-site recycling and Clivus programs.
  • Participate in organization wide Working Groups to streamline, unify and support operations across AMC locations.
  • Serve as a welcome presence and assist visitors and guests in a positive manner; respond to any problems or special requests with a professional demeanor.
