SUMMARY: Under supervision and following established procedures, performs a variety of light to moderate cleaning duties in order to maintain the Hospital and hospital complex in an orderly, sanitary, and attractive condition for patients, personnel and visitors. RESPONSIBILITIES: Must have classroom and on the job training of above floor care and floor care cleaning procedures and learn proper operation and cleaning of equipment. Dust mop and damp mop all hard floor surfaces. Vacuums all carpets, runners, rugs and chairs. Dusts, clean disinfect from top to bottom all patient room furniture including chairs and television sets. Also cleans all other furniture chairs, etc. , through out the hospital complex. Dusts and washes, disinfects, window sills, blinds, shades, counter tops, doors, lights, vents, wall, hung items, mirrors, glass, wastebaskets and vinyl chairs. Washes disinfects all sinks, toilets, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, showers, service and refill all soap and paper dispensers. Cleans dust, washes, disinfects from top to bottom all beds, mattresses, sleeping carts through out the hospital complex. Picks up and disposes of rubbish and soiled linen and deposit down chute or rubbish truck. Wash or spot wash walls and polish woodwork, all furniture, brass fittings and stainless steel elevator doors, kick plates, etc. Removes spots from carpets and furniture by using the Host dry system or other easy user friendly spotting systems that are safe to use for both employee and materials that spots are to be removed. May buff and polish floors in rooms and corridors using both manual and motorized devices. Takes laundry linen inventory by physically counting pieces of linen and documenting results on forms. May be required to carry and use a beeper or a two-way radio upon request. Assists in the preparation of Radiation Rooms (I-131). Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor or group leader. BASIC KNOWLEDGE: Ability to follow instruction and observe safety precautions. Ability to prepare solutions according to procedure, assembles other necessary cleaning equipment such as mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, mop buckets and ringers. Ability to read, write, understand and speak English, as well as ability to count numbers. EXPERIENCE: At least one to three months on the job training plus formal and on going classroom training. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Walking, standing, pushing, stooping, lifting, going up and down stairs and ladders, travels in elevators. Some exposure to unpleasant odors in the work area, as well as contaminated items and strong cleaning solutions. Some hazards from improperly disposed needles and glass. Hazards are minimized with adherence to established safety precautions.
