About The Position

Founded in 1940, Dignity Health - Marian Regional Medical Center is a 191-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Santa Maria, California. Serving over 250,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including Level II Trauma Center, Level III NICU, cancer care, orthopedics, and stroke care. Additionally, Marian Regional Medical Center has been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. It is a Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Center, and the only healthcare facility on the Central Coast to offer ECMO. As our Housekeeper, you'll clean and maintain assigned areas of the hospital in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition to promote a clean and healthy environment for all employees, patients, and guests in accordance with departmental standards. Every day you will adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects. You will apply specialized cleaning techniques to designated rooms and equipment, replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and tissues, and deliver clean linens to patient rooms. You will be successful in this role if you consistently maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control while following safety protocols and departmental guidelines. Success also depends on reliability, attention to detail, flexibility to take on additional tasks, timely reporting of maintenance issues, and a proactive approach to responding to emergencies and supporting a safe, healthy environment for patients and staff.

Requirements

  • Health care cleaning work experience or similar heavy project work.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain assigned areas of the hospital in a sanitary, orderly, and attractive condition to promote a clean and healthy environment for all employees, patients, and guests in accordance with departmental standards.
  • Adhere to proper disposal techniques for biohazard materials, including bodily fluids or sharp objects.
  • Apply specialized cleaning techniques to designated rooms and equipment.
  • Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and tissues.
  • Deliver clean linens to patient rooms.
  • Consistently maintain high standards of cleanliness and infection control while following safety protocols and departmental guidelines.
  • Maintain reliability, attention to detail, and flexibility to take on additional tasks.
  • Timely report maintenance issues.
  • Proactively respond to emergencies and support a safe, healthy environment for patients and staff.
  • Damp dust/sanitize and spot clean/wash furniture, lamps, window sills, walls, doors, and other horizontal surfaces in occupied patient areas and non-patient areas, as well as discharge/check out areas.
  • Clean toilets, sinks, and shower; dust/dry mop floors and damp/wet mop with baseboard cleaning.
  • Clean and refill all soap and paper product dispensers.
  • Wash windows, glass and blinds, and walls, ceilings, doors, and doorframes.
  • Dust/clean high dust vents, lights, tops of lockers, pictures, and other "over the shoulder" level objects.
  • Perform detail cleaning: under sinks, beds, and desks, floor edges, corners and baseboards, telephones.
  • Empty, sanitize, and re-line all trash receptacles; dispose of trash and other exhausted resources in appropriate areas.
  • Perform room setups.
  • Strip, sanitize, and make beds according to individual department needs.
  • Change disinfectant, mops, and cleaning cloths as outlined in department manual.
  • Retrieve/transport medical waste following DOT, State, and internal department policies and procedures.
  • Follow proper San-I-Pak procedures, including PPE; adhere to security precautions.
  • Respond to calls for spillage, breakage, and other needed services.
  • Complete first impressions within the first hour of shift and clean throughout the day as needed.
  • Hang or detach drapes and cubicle curtains; move furniture/beds as needed.
  • Complete cycle cleaning projects on a weekly basis.
  • Demonstrate an awareness and sensitivity toward the various age groups of patients.
  • Maintain a professional and safe work environment.
  • Prioritize workload effectively to accomplish work in a reasonable time.
  • Take initiative to see what needs to be done and take the necessary action to see that it is accomplished.
  • Use gloves, goggles, cover gowns, and other PPE when needed for appropriate jobs.
  • Wear proper uniform as recognized by department policy, including surgery, L&D, and isolation rooms.
  • Know/follow Fire and Safety Policies.
  • Know/follow Hazardous Material Procedure.
  • Know/follow Triage Disaster Procedure.
  • Know/follow Radiation Disaster Procedure.
  • Know/follow Safety and Equipment Safety regulations.
