Housekeeper
About The Position
Located in DUMBO, Brooklyn, 90 Sands offers 491 units of permanent, supportive housing to low-income New Yorkers, people living with HIV/AIDS, and chronically homeless individuals, including individuals with mental illness. Built on the former site of the Watchtower Society, the 30-story building features a multipurpose room for community events and meetings, a digital library/computer lab, and a fitness room. The Center for Urban Community Services provides comprehensive onsite social services, and Breaking Ground coordinates property management services. Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, the Housekeeper is a part of the department that maintains the common areas of the safe haven. Examples of common areas include offices, multi-purpose rooms, roof deck, garden, trash collection area, lobby, fitness room and sidewalks. Client areas will also be cleaned. This position has a 35-hour work week, onsite.
Requirements
- Comparable work experience
- Experience operating of vacuum cleaner, high speed buffer
- Ability to lift and move furniture, appliances, etc.
- High School Diploma, GED, Trade School Diploma, or equivalent
- Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with special needs populations a plus
- Basic knowledge of using a computer is preferred
Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum
- Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces
- Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow
- Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order
- Sort and package recyclables to comply with NYC regulations
- Operate compactor
- Set up and clean up for meetings and other events
- Assist painters and engineers when assigned
- Perform work at other facilities as required
- Perform other related duties as assigned
