About The Position

The position involves maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, ensuring quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. The role requires performing various cleaning tasks, including dusting furniture, mopping floors, and operating mechanical cleaning equipment. The individual will also be responsible for cleaning and disinfecting fixtures, floors, and windows, as well as managing waste disposal and operating a trash compactor. Additional responsibilities include participating in educational programs, attending meetings, and serving on the hospital fire brigade as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have basic education in reading and writing and have the ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Some experience is desirable but not essential; worker may learn duties by on-the-job training.
  • Must know how to use common housecleaning devices.
  • Willingness to perform routine, repetitive tasks on a continuous basis, accept supervision, and perform tasks despite frequent interruptions.
  • Must have the ability to tolerate all types of cleaning solutions.
  • Must be willing to learn to operate buffers, scrubbers, carpet shampooers, and trash compactor or any other equipment required to do the job.
  • Must be able to be on feet for 7 3/4 hours of an eight hour shift.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds of weight.
  • Good sight is necessary to determine amount of cleaning needed.
  • Must be able to answer pages, talk on telephone and communicate with patients, visitors and co-workers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
  • Dusts furniture, woodwork, equipment and dust mops floors.
  • Polishes and cleans fixtures in utility rooms and bathrooms.
  • Operates mechanical floor cleaners, polishers, and vacuums.
  • Wet mops rooms, halls, stairways and public areas.
  • Shampoo rugs and furniture. Cleans vents, fans, and other equipment.
  • Cleans ceiling fixtures, windows, door frames and high areas using a ladder.
  • Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials.
  • Operates trash compactor.
  • Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
  • Buffs, strips, waxes and polishes floors.
  • Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls of bathrooms.
  • Removes and replaces draperies, blinds and cubicle curtains.
  • Sweeps sidewalks and removes snow as needed.
  • Serves on hospital fire brigade.
  • Participates in educational programs and in-service meetings.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
