The Housekeeping Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Housekeeper I, High Performance Work Team. In this role, you will be instrumental in maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of campus buildings, ensuring a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for our community. You will have the opportunity to handle a variety of tasks, respond to emergencies, and contribute to a collaborative work environment through cross-training initiatives. UCF is seeking to fill multiple roles for the Housekeeper I, High Performance Work Team. Candidates for this job posting will be considered for additional vacancies in this department.

Requirements

  • Completion of 9th grade. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver’s license.
  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.
  • Completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of previous work experience in a custodial or similar role.
  • 1+ years of previous experience performing basic maintenance tasks in a commercial or residential setting (painting, light bulb replacement, and minor carpet or ceiling tile repairs, etc.).
  • Experience with small and large tools for essential tasks (floor care equipment, mop/mop bucket, dust mop, broom, scrub pad, radio, etc.).
  • Familiar with standard office software applications and devices for work order systems (IWMS).
  • Capacity to understand safety guidelines and use approved chemicals by Environmental Health & Safety to perform essential job functions.
  • Customer service-oriented mindset with the ability to interact professionally with staff and respond to inquiries courteously.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to follow written and oral instructions effectively.
  • Basic decision-making abilities to assess and address cleaning and maintenance needs.
  • Adaptability to work under varied environmental conditions and schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Perform surface cleaning of furniture, walls, and equipment, ensuring adherence to high cleanliness standards.
  • Vacuum carpeted areas, including moving furniture as needed, and conducting spot cleaning as required.
  • Sweep, mop, and maintain floors, stairwells, entries, and other flooring surfaces.
  • Remove trash and recycling from designated areas, maintaining cleanliness throughout the facility.
  • Clean and restock restrooms and other common facilities to ensure availability and cleanliness.
  • Conduct shampooing and extraction of carpeted areas and upholstery as per cleaning schedules.
  • Assist with basic maintenance tasks such as painting, light bulb replacement, and minor carpet or ceiling tile repairs.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies and urgent requests, including water events and air quality cleanup, ensuring quick resolution and minimal disruption.
  • Ability to stand for up to eight hours and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. with minimal accommodation.
