About The Position

This is a Household Assistant/Environmental Services position for the Hillview Health Care Campuses. Employees are selected by their ability to perform the work required, and work under supervision of the Support Systems Manager, and/or the Director of Nursing and/or Clinical Nurse Manager and/or the Household Coordinator, performing routine cleaning and assisting residents in all aspects of care. This position is scheduled for 64 hours per pay period and consists of 8-hour shifts. Employees have the opportunity to select their preferred start time between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Upon selection, this start time will remain consistent moving forward. This position also requires working every other weekend and a holiday rotation. Wage range: $18.09 to $20.89 per hour.

Requirements

  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant at time of hire.
  • Must be listed on the Wisconsin Nurse Aide Registry within 120 days from date of hire.
  • A nurse aide student enrolled in an approved nurse aide training program may be permitted to work for up to 120 calendar days, if the person is employed full-time by a federally certified nursing home.
  • The person must be placed on the Nurse Aide Registry by the 120th calendar day from the date of enrollment in the approved program.
  • Must be at least 17 years of age.
  • Must successfully pass a background check as required by the Wisconsin Caregiver Law.
  • Employees driving County vehicles must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a good driving record.
  • Working knowledge of the principles of resident care, good hygiene, infection control, housekeeping and clothing care.
  • Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, including the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids and cleaning instructions and for use of equipment.
  • Ability to conscientiously observe facility rules, regulations and policies.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of residents including those with dementia and mental illness.
  • Meeting federally mandated 12-hour in-service requirement annually.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference for individuals with prior experience performing facility cleaning work.
  • Prefer experience working with geriatric or mentally ill populations but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans, dusts and cares for floors, windows, walls in resident living areas and other areas as assigned.
  • Disinfects bathroom floors, walls, toilets, sinks, showers, spa, utility room and equipment, etc.
  • Empties and cleans waste baskets.
  • Ensures appliances are cleaned.
  • Balances residents' needs and routines with tasks needed to be completed for cleaning.
  • Works alongside other team members to meet the individualized needs of each resident.
  • Follows isolation policies and procedures when sanitizing isolation rooms.
  • Stocks needed supplies in resident rooms.
  • Assists in providing individualized or group activities based on resident preferences and needs as assigned.
  • Supports all aspects of person-centered care.
  • Respects and acknowledges individuality and uniqueness of residents.
  • Assist with meals and residents who may need assistance.
  • Attends in-service educational programs.
  • Participates in household meetings, as needed.
  • Provides supervision of residents to maintain safety of resident and peers at all times.
  • Follows individualized resident care plans.
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment free of hazards.
  • After meals, assures that dining area floors, tables, chairs and wheelchairs etc. are cleaned of food and liquids.
  • Maintains resident rights and confidentiality of resident information, following HIPAA guidelines.
  • Immediately report all suspected cases of resident abuse or neglect to the supervisor or Administrator.
  • In this public service position, employee is required to be courteous, cooperative and respectful always, with the public and clients.
  • Also establishes and maintains a courteous, cooperative and respectful working relationship with other employees, supervisors and public officials.
  • Works safely and follows the safety practices and standards of the facility including Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Uses a gait belt and proper body mechanics when involved in lifting, pushing or pulling activities.
  • Always uses 1-2 staff when using mechanical lifts.
  • Escorts individuals or groups to dining room and other facility activities.
  • May drive facility vehicles in the transportation of residents to program events, medical or dental appointments etc.
  • Reports to work on time and when scheduled.
  • Assures that equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
  • May be directed to assume some training responsibilities for new employees who are not as familiar with the nature of the work.
