About The Position

Provides first-line administrative and clinical operations support for Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Assists in preventing, reducing, and controlling risk exposures. Provides proactive patient/parent/legal guardian representation and advocacy.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
  • Demonstrated ability in integrating pathophysiology, psychology, and sociology into the pediatric clinical setting
  • Leadership ability such as coaching of individuals, decision making, problem-solving, and conflict resolution
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, diplomatically and with good judgment
  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Skill Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Responsibilities

  • Administrative Resource Provides support, problem-solving, coaching, and policy/procedure interpretation and compliance.
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills and makes sure that members understand key messages and strategy, being sensitive to how messages may be received and adjusting message accordingly.
  • Has knowledge of hospital policies and procedures and seeks out appropriate resources for policy interpretation as needed.
  • Solves problems with minimal assistance.
  • Emergency Management Attends codes and significant events and lends support to ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Provides feedback to appropriate administrative team member.
  • Provides assistance in a code setting, maintains crowd control, and can provide assistance to others when codes occur.
  • Demonstrates working knowledge of other types of code situations, e.g., code pink, code red, code white, and code green.
  • Functions as administrator on call in event of a disaster until designated administrator on call arrives.
  • Fiscal Responsibility Assists in maintaining departmental budget within established fiscal guidelines.
  • Participates in cost containment measures.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies, utilization of staff on a shift-to-shift basis, and time management.
  • Patient Representative Functions as patient representative when Patient Representative is not available and documents and communicates actions and needed follow-up.
  • Responds to parent concerns, compiles complaint information, and leaves follow-up for Patient Representative.
  • Patient Throughput Serves as administrative resource in collaboration with Transfer Center to facilitate patient throughput.
  • Facilitates census meetings with emphasis on interdisciplinary discharge planning, rounds frequently at least three times per shift, and updates bed status on bed board.
  • Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of bed status readily.
  • Manages patient flow effectively in hospitals with accountability for achieving patient flow outcomes across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with physicians, interdisciplinary team, hospital leadership, and staff to facilitate efficient, effective, and safe patient flow, removing or escalating barriers to appropriate leader.
  • Coordinates hospital staffing needs and facilitates decision making with clinical leadership at all levels to ensure maximum capacity and patient safety.
  • Professional Development Demonstrates involvement in and support of learning to enhance professional growth and clinical expertise.
  • Completes mandatory education, department-specific competencies, and required in-services by due date and documents attendance on education record.
  • Maintains certifications and licensures.
  • Quality Supports and participates in continuous assessment and improvement of quality of care and service provided.
  • Participates in and reports opportunities for quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates ability to answer most questions that occur and seeks out resources as needed.
  • Manage the day to day operations of the staff, including but not limited to: work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.
  • Take an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.
  • Assist manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.
