POSITION SUMMARY The House Supervisor is a representative of patient care/hospital administration on nights and weekends and oversees effective patient placement, assures adequate staffing resources and safe and effective care delivery. The position safeguards the quality of patient care, meeting the needs and goals of the Sauk Prairie Healthcare organization. The House Supervisor is responsible for the management and coordination of all hospital departments and personnel on the night shift and weekends in the absence of direct line managers. Overall, the House Supervisor serves as an advocate for patient care, staff, and the hospital as a whole. Assuring high quality patient care services are provided in accordance with SPH mission/vision, values, service behaviors, policies/procedures, and regulations.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in a hospital setting.
  • State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse license
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
  • 5 years of clinical experience with previous experience in specialty area of nursing (e.g. critical care, ER, or OB) desired.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and/or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)

Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison between patient care units, support departments and organizational leadership, medical staff and other disciplines to assure safe and effective delivery of care in accordance with hospital policy/procedures and protocols or other clinical guidelines.
  • Support overall patient care departments operating goals and needs by managing the off shifts, weekends, and holidays according to established plans for safe and effective staffing to ensure high quality patient care.
  • Collaborate with all disciplines, providers, and patient families to achieve mutually-defined patient care goals.
  • Provide shift oversight for patient care practice, nursing care accountabilities for safe and effective delivery of care.
  • Ensure uninterrupted quality of care by assisting with transitions of care.
  • When required step into a Charge Nurse role and/or Primary RN role within any clinical department on the Hospital campus.
  • Analyze and evaluates complexities and volumes of nursing care required and adjusts staffing resources accordingly.
  • Collaborate with department Director to discuss any immediate discipline concerns during the off shift and weekend coverage and when there is not a designated dept. supervisor or Manager readily available or in-house.
  • Consult immediately with department director and/or administrator to review situations and process to follow.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and risk management activities.
  • Make critical adjustments and contacts to obtain needed equipment, services, resources. Including but not limited to: obtaining equipment, interpreters, calling in specialty call team (e.g. OR), preparation of transfer packets and coordination of Med Fight or alternative transportation, if needed.
  • Conduct regular rounds to all clinical care units to ensure resource needs and clinical care needs are discussed and solutions explored/implemented to support overall goals and patient care needs.
  • Provide oversight and act as a resource for clinical staff.
  • Intervene in patient/family or provider complaints, supporting effective communication and conflict resolution.
  • Provides necessary documentation of events and initiates appropriate follow-up.
  • Act as a liaison to Infection Control; serving as clinical resource, ensuring negative air pressure status is achieved, assisting with fit testing if necessary, obtaining necessary consents, and any other necessary function to assure that all infection control practices are in place and followed after hours.
  • . Ensure all expectations for HIPAA compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, hospital policies/procedures and protocols to maintain a safe patient care environment.
  • Serve as the risk management liaison; channeling issues in accordance with hospital policies/procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Supports timely and accurate reporting of all patient/visitor incidents, assists to monitor and support infection control and security standards established by the organization/department.
  • Primary responder and coordinator for emergency situations after hours.
  • Actively supports and is involved in Emergency Operations Plan and other related disaster preparedness activities.
