About The Position

The House Supervisor/Trauma Nurse Coordinator is a Registered Nurse who provides operational leadership for hospital services while overseeing the trauma program at Grundy County Memorial Hospital (GCMH). In this dual role, the individual serves as the hospital’s administrative representative during assigned shifts, ensuring safe, high-quality patient care through coordination, supervision, and support of clinical teams, including direct charge nurse responsibilities in the Emergency Department. As Trauma Nurse Coordinator, this role directs the coordination of trauma patient throughput in and out of the emergency department, ensures compliance with trauma program standards, and oversees timely and accurate data submission. The House Supervisor/Trauma Nurse Coordinator serves as the primary point of contact for the GCMH trauma program—representing the hospital to outside agencies, regulatory bodies, and the community—while fostering strong partnerships that support excellence in trauma care.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa.
• Minimum of 3 years recent RN experience in a hospital setting, including emergency department experience.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC, and Dependent Adult & Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter (per policy).
• Valid driver’s license for work-related travel.
• Proficiency in English (read, write, comprehend, and speak).
• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and email.
• Ability to use customary clinical and office equipment to perform essential functions.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
• Recent experience in trauma, emergency nursing, and/or nurse leadership.
• Certification as a TNCC Instructor (or willingness to obtain within 2 years of hire).
• Current professional certification related to area of practice.
• Demonstrated leadership, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to assess the needs of patients, families, and team members.
• Ability to apply principles of supervision to support hospital and nursing administration goals.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the clinical resource and administrative representative during assigned shifts.
• Oversee hospital operations, including staffing, patient flow, bed requests, and diversion decisions.
• Collaborate with leaders, physicians, and care teams to resolve issues, support policies, and ensure optimal outcomes.
• Perform department rounds, respond to emergency codes, and maintain effective communication with leadership.
• Assist with patient care, admissions, transfers, discharges, and crisis situations as needed.
• Ensure compliance with infection prevention protocols, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
• Provide charge nurse support, including patient triage, transfer coordination, and EMS report intake.
• Ensure adequate staffing, supplies, and equipment availability in the ED.
• Deliver direct patient care and documentation when necessary.
• Support a safe, compliant environment while fostering strong relationships with ED providers and EMS crews.
• Oversee GCMH’s Trauma Program to ensure compliance with state and national standards.
• Coordinate trauma patient data collection, analysis, and submission (Image Trend) to drive performance improvement.
• Partner with the Trauma Medical Director on Trauma Committee meetings, case reviews, and quality initiatives.
• Prepare for and lead State Trauma Survey activities, ensuring program readiness and compliance.
• Collaborate with regional and state trauma coordinators to maintain best practices.
• Guide and teach staff on trauma care, ensuring ATLS compliance for providers.
• Coordinate trauma-related education, training, and community outreach in collaboration with Staff Development.
• Support injury prevention initiatives and represent GCMH in state-level trauma system activities.
