About The Position

Waypoint's Transitional Living Program (TLP) is seeking a volunteer Live-In (on site) House Mentor  in Dover, NH to provide positive mentorship and support to young adults, between the ages of 18-21. This volunteer opportunity would require an average of 10-12 hours of support each week, but would provide a rent free room in the house. If you have a passion for today's youth and feel you would be a great role model for struggling young adults, this is an excellent opportunity to make a difference in some young lives in a positive way! We encourage house mentors to be creative, unique, and dynamic, providing a hands-on and interactive approach to support residents. We strongly encourage applicants to apply who have experience working with at-risk youth and young adults who have been faced with trauma, adversity, foster care involvement, incarceration, and mental health. A huge plus if you come with an understanding of Positive Youth Development and Adolescent/Young Adult Development. This is an Excellent Volunteer Opportunity for Graduate Students.

Requirements

  • Will commit to at least six months - one year as a mentor
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be at a stable place of employment and/or in school
  • Professional and/or personal experience preferred but not required
  • Strong understanding of confidentiality and the ability to protect private client information
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check with no history of abuse, neglect or exploitation

Responsibilities

  • Will commit to ongoing learning and training opportunities/asking questions/seeking support when needed
  • Inform TLP Manager of any schedule change requests.
  • Will attend TLP team and House Mentor meetings throughout the year
  • Maintain a positive perspective on young people and have a passion for working with in-risk youth
  • Will work collaboratively with the care coordinator to meet program and resident needs (like putting away orders and notifying care coordinator when supplies are low etc.)
  • Conduct and Provide feedback for weekly room checks and chore checks
  • Host pro-social events based on house needs and young people's feedback
  • Spend intentional and equitable time in community spaces within the program to promote rapport and safety
  • Must have the ability to set and maintain strong boundaries
  • Must be willing to support a alcohol/substance-free home.
  • Act as a problem-solving liaison between a young person, the program, and other residents; conduct roommate mediations [https://waypointnh.sharepoint.com/:w:/s/tl/EZmfuzbYXCNAo0ywbvwA8cEBocNPzlESSVfxQcC2CrCjNw?e=CBw1bW] on a case-by-case basis
  • Will receive a quarterly stipend of $150, if all duties and responsibilities are being met
  • House Mentors will be supported and supervised by the TLP Manager and Care Coordinator.
