About the position

The House Manager is responsible for supporting the operations and patient care services of the organization. The House Manager utilizes effective leadership skills to support staff, solve problems, and make appropriate decisions. They provide immediate administrative and clinical leadership to unit staff and ancillary departments and coordinates hospital-wide activities as necessary to resolve problem situations as they arise and often in the absence of unit leaders. Works independently as well as with others. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and oversees hospital operations.
  • Provides administrative direction.
  • Resolves crises and conflicts.
  • Provides analysis, assessment and intervention for problems requiring immediate attention.
  • Informs department managers and directors of problems and resolutions.
  • Investigates problems and complaints from patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
  • Implements appropriate action and follow up.
  • Conducts initial assessment of atypical events and initiates appropriate action.
  • Ensures notification of risk management, CSI and department manager and director.
  • Continually assesses hospital environment for safety concerns.
  • Attends all Safety Check-In Meetings Monday - Friday.
  • Leads Safety Check-In Meetings on weekends and holidays.
  • Coordinates placement of all admissions and transfers.
  • Collaborates with physicians and Rapid Response to ensure optimal patient placement.
  • Monitors hospital capacity and manages through-put to avoid delays in patient placement.
  • Leads 0400/1600 Bed Planning Meetings.
  • Coordinates communication with outside organizations or their representatives.
  • Manages the initial response in the event of a disaster, crisis or emergency situation.
  • Ensures compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Answers all calls for Employee Incident Hot Line after hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Conducts regular rounds on all hospital departments and units.
  • Oversees availability of supplies and equipment necessary for patient care.

Requirements

  • Licensed RN in the State of Michigan required.
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's in Nursing/HCA preferred.
  • Licensed RN in good standing with the State of Michigan required.
  • For Bronson South Haven: BSN required upon hire for this position.
  • 3-5 years of progressively more responsible experience in the hospital or elsewhere.
  • BCLS required upon hire for Bronson South Haven.
  • Advanced Life Support within 6 months of hire.
  • Hospital Incident Command courses IS-100.HCb, IS-200HCb, IS-200.HCa and IS-700.a, and NIH Stroke certification to be completed within 6 months of hire.
  • Overall knowledge of disaster planning and certification in IS courses highly preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with record keeping.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and analyze data from various computer systems and equipment associated with patient care.
