About The Position

The Contemporary American Theater Festival at Shepherd University is welcoming applications for CATF's 2025 House Manager and Accessibility Lead. CATF, a summer festival and leading producer of contemporary plays, is dedicated to telling diverse stories and developing new American theater. The festival premieres or produces multiple plays each season in three venues. CATF is committed to supporting the unique needs of new work while fostering an environment of fun and company community. Located 90 minutes from DC, CATF makes its home in one of America's coolest small towns, Shepherdstown, WV. Reporting to the Box Office Manager, the House Manager is a leader within the Audience Services Team, providing radical hospitality to all CATF audience members and helping facilitate an exceptional festival experience directly and through the training and management of the House Management Team.

Requirements

  • Being a leader within the Audience Services Team requires patience, flexibility, collaboration, excellent written and verbal communication skills, enthusiasm for working with and assisting the public, attention to detail, and a desire to support and expand accessibility.
  • Additionally, the successful candidate will value and practice Anti-Racist and Anti-Oppressive (ARAO) efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Manage house management and accessibility operations throughout the Festival
  • Train and coach house management interns including scanning tickets, coordinating with volunteers, facilitating accessibility needs; providing excellent in-person customer service, and creating a welcoming environment for all Festival attendees
  • Create accessibility supports including read-along scripts and closed captioning, recommending additional supports as needed
  • Act as safety lead for all venues, training house management interns and volunteers on safety procedures
  • Manage accessibility requests and facilitate accessibility technology, including closed captioning
  • Assist Group Sales Manager to provide on-site support for Festival groups
  • Provide superior customer service to all audience members
  • Act as concierge, providing information about dining, lodging, and other activities
  • Create and distribute weekly schedules to house management interns and volunteer ushers
  • Train ushers on front of house procedures, venue layouts, emergency procedures, technology, and other pertinent information
  • Lead, manage, and assist Audience Services Team in keeping all venue public spaces clean, safe, and organized

  • Coordinate with box office interns, house management interns, stage management personnel, and volunteers to ensure the best experience for the audience
  • Other duties as assigned
