About The Position

The House Electrician is responsible for executing and overseeing all lighting and electrical requirements for events at The BayCare Sound. This position serves as the primary lighting technician and console operator for the venue, ensuring high-quality implementation of lighting designs, equipment operation, and safe technical practices. This is a guaranteed 40-hour per week union position. When The BayCare Sound scheduling does not fulfill the guaranteed weekly hours, this position may be assigned to work at Ruth Eckerd Hall, the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre, or approved offsite events to fill remaining time, with The BayCare Sound rate prevailing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical theater or equivalent training preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in concert/theatrical lighting operation and maintenance.
  • Experience with programming all intelligent fixtures and lighting boards preferred.
  • Experience working in live music or outdoor amphitheater environments strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with modern lighting consoles (grand MA2 & 3, ETC, Hog 4, etc.).
  • Knowledge of intelligent lighting systems including maintenance and repair.
  • Working knowledge of NEC codes applicable to electricians.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and connecting electrical feeder cables.
  • Knowledge of arena and theater rigging, including chain hoists, wire rope, load calculations, and safety protocols.
  • Working knowledge of Vectorworks, CAD, and Autodesk Revit.
  • Understanding of video wall mapping, patching, signal flow, and processing.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for working with artists, crew, staff, and vendors.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Computer literacy including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights, including catwalks and lifts.
  • Ability to access all lighting positions and stage areas.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours, including nights and weekends; Regular and reliable attendance is essential.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Successful completion of background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Lighting Operation & Event Support Serve as the primary electrical and lighting technician and console operator for BayCare Sound events.
  • Install, hang, focus, patch, and operate lighting systems for concerts, festivals, and special events.
  • Program and operate industry-standard lighting consoles (grand MA2 & 3, ETC, Hog 4, etc.).
  • Work directly with touring crew, guest LDs, and production personnel to satisfy technical rider requirements.
  • Interpret lighting plots, advance information, and event specifications.
  • Disseminate, patch, operate, and collect all venue Clear-Com systems for touring crews.
  • Ensure that lighting elements of load-in, show, and load-out are performed safely, efficiently, and professionally.
  • Equipment Maintenance & Technical Support Maintain and repair theatrical lighting equipment, intelligent fixtures, dimmers, power distribution, effects, and cabling.
  • Assist with inventory maintenance and ensure equipment is properly stored and prepared for upcoming events.
  • Stay informed on current best practices and evolving technologies in lighting and electrics.
  • Cross-Venue / Offsite Support (As Needed) Work at other REH-managed venues or approved offsite events when BayCare Sound scheduling does not meet guaranteed hours.
  • Perform only work within the job classification at all locations.
  • Compensation remains at the BayCare Sound union rate, regardless of assigned venue.
  • Safety & Collaboration Ensure safe work practices in accordance with venue policies, NEC, OSHA, and industry standards.
  • Communicate clearly with Technical Director, Production Manager, visiting crews, and internal staff.
  • Professionally represent Ruth Eckerd Hall at all times.
  • Other Duties Assist with video, rigging, deck work, or general stage operations when needed and appropriate to the classification.
  • Complete all other duties consistent with the Lighting/Electrics classification and venue needs.
