About The Position

Hourly Research Assistant Supports ongoing synthetic glycan research projects under the supervision of senior research staff. Responsibilities include assisting in experimental design and execution, data analysis, and literature review. This is a part-time position (approximately 18 hours/week) ideal for candidates with foundational lab experience and interest in gaining further research skills in chemical biology or a related field. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • At least 6 months to 1 year of relevant research experience (including undergraduate research, internships, or lab courses).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently and in a team setting.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined.
  • The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to conduct appropriate research experiments/scientific inputs on his or her assigned project(s). The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of signaling and development and the ability to assess data regarding various research projects and provide service/be complaint with the University/College/Department as described in the HR policies and procedures manual.

  • Requires 3+ years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting laboratory experiments related to synthetic glycan research.
  • Perform basic lab techniques (e.g., pipetting, solution prep, assays) under supervision.
  • Record, organize, and analyze experimental data.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support research activities.
  • Help develop and refine experimental protocols.
  • Maintain lab equipment and ensure a clean and safe lab environment.
  • Attend lab meetings and contribute to discussions.
  • Assist in preparing figures, presentations, and reports.
  • Support senior researchers in manuscript and grant preparation as needed.
