About The Position

The University of Utah College of Health and Department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training is seeking an individual to join our research team and support research studies evaluating telehealth and in-person physical therapy for persons with chronic pain. The primary responsibilities of this person are to enroll participants, track retention and compliance with follow-up assessments and perform data collection activities. They will interact with patients receiving care at University of Utah Health and other health clinics, and with other research staff on the study team. Because of the patient populations involved in these studies, it is preferred for the person in this position is able to communicate in both Spanish and English. This position is funded by grants from the federal government. This position has the ability to telecommute. Some on-campus activities are required. An employee hired into this role will be responsible for providing space, telephone, printing, networking and/or internet capabilities at their telecommute location and agree to the terms of the University of Utah campus and Health Academics Telecommuting Agreement. This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated vaccination requirements, or be approved for an exemption, prior to the first day of work. We protect our patients, coworkers and community by requiring all patient-sensitive employees to be immunized according to CDC standards and hospital policy. Limited exemptions may be made for documented medical contraindications or religious beliefs that object to vaccinations.

Requirements

  • Able to communicate in English
  • Bachelor's degree in a Social or Behavioral Science, Liberal Arts, or a field related to the area of research, or equivalency;
  • One year of experience in research.
  • Completion of University RED Clinical Certification within two months of hire required.
  • Completion of CITI Human Subjects and Good Clinical Practice Training within one month of hire required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, HIPAA and IRB regulations; an understanding of research procedures; and the ability to function independently is preferred.
  • Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with human subjects research
  • Able to communicate in Spanish
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software programs.
  • Experience with REDCap

Responsibilities

  • Screen patients for study eligibility based on study criteria
  • Conduct telephone calls to patients to introduce the study and offer the opportunity to enroll in the study
  • Consent and enroll patients by phone
  • Assist in scheduling patients for follow-up study treatment sessions and assessments
  • Data entry into REDCap study database
  • Documentation of all communications with study participants
  • Identify and report adverse events and protocol deviations.
  • Maintain compliance with all research regulations from the institutional review board and other oversight bodies.
  • Other duties as assigned
