About The Position

BCIT Adult Education is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Construction Trades Instructor to lead a modular, entry-level evening course for adult learners. The course is divided into three components - Plumbing & HVAC, Electrical, and Carpentry - designed to provide students with foundational, employable skills across these high-demand trades. This hands-on training program prepares students for entry-level employment or further education in each respective field.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of verifiable work experience in at least two of the following trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Carpentry.
• Competency and working knowledge across all four trade areas.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to teach adult learners with varying levels of experience.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Ability to work evenings as scheduled.

Nice To Haves

• NJ CTE Certification in related trades or ability to obtain.
• Prior teaching, training, or apprenticeship instruction experience.
• OSHA 10/30 certification.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and practical instruction in: Module 1: Basic Plumbing & HVAC Systems, Module 2: Basic Residential Electrical Wiring, Module 3: Basic Carpentry and Framing Techniques
• Develop and implement lesson plans that meet industry standards and align with course goals.
• Provide hands-on training using tools, equipment, and materials in a lab/shop environment.
• Evaluate student performance through assignments, demonstrations, and assessments.
• Foster a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom and shop environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and competency achievement.
• Communicate with adult education administration regarding curriculum updates and supply needs.
• Promote workforce readiness and support students in career development and job placement goals.
