About The Position

The Hourly Admissions Counselor at VCU is a temporary seasonal role focused on recruiting undergraduate students. This position serves as a liaison between the university and prospective students, providing essential information and customer service. The counselor will engage in extensive travel, including evenings and weekends, to attend recruitment events and maintain relationships with educational institutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent applicable experience and education.
  • Excellent oral and written presentation skills.
  • Ability to use Office products including PowerPoint.
  • Comfort with and ability to travel for extended periods.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask.
  • A current driver's license and current car insurance.
  • Ability to work some hours over the University's winter break.
  • Ability to obtain and manage a VCU travel card.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in higher education, admissions, or recruitment.
  • Knowledge of VCU programs or prior VCU student.
  • Previous customer service and public speaking experience.

Responsibilities

  • Represent VCU at various student recruitment events and activities, including college fairs and visits to high schools.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and information about the university to prospective students and their families.
  • Plan and conduct in-person and virtual information sessions and counseling sessions for prospective students.
  • Respond to inquiries from prospective students and maintain follow-up communication regarding their applications.
  • Review and evaluate applicant credentials to determine admissibility to the university.
  • Manage an applicant caseload efficiently and communicate with students and counselors regarding incomplete applications.
  • Conduct information sessions and campus tours, providing accurate information about the university.
  • Assist the Welcome Center staff as directed by the Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions.
