About The Position

The Materials and Processes Engineering Hot Gas Path and Informatics Engineer is responsible for material capability and quality of gas turbine blades/vanes/shrouds. This engineer qualifies suppliers to produce investment cast components for industrial gas turbine, provides expertise to ensure the metallurgical quality of the part produced, including establishing material and process requirements for the qualification, and performs machine learning studies to evaluate composition and microstructure effects on properties. Additionally, this person performs failure analysis of hardware damaged during field operation. Roles and Responsibilities Work with mechanical design engineers to define material selection and component quality requirements for new design investment cast components Coordinate with qualification team including design engineering, sourcing quality engineering and manufacturing representative to define qualification plan, and evaluate metallurgical quality of produced hardware Analyze microstructure of cast components to support post-cast production processes Evaluate field returned hardware through metallurgical and microstructural analysis to identify potential quality issues Utilize machine learning modeling methods for development, improvement, and usage of materials, coatings, and processes utilized to build, apply, or shape the materials. Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills. Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area. May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college
  • 1-2 years of relevant engineering experience

Nice To Haves

  • Gas Power Edison Engineer
  • Completion of LPX, Teardown Training
  • Progress toward completion of Engineering Masters degree and/or ACE Certificate
  • Knowledge of investment casting process
  • Knowledge of nickel superalloys and high strength steel alloys
  • Familiarity with mechanical and physical properties of these materials.
  • Prior experience with material and process specifications
  • Knowledge of metallurgical laboratory methods for evaluation of microstructure and composition of alloys
  • Knowledge of machine learning methods and programming languages
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to drive projects to completion
  • Effective at managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience and familiarity with common software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.
