POSITION SUMMARY: The Host is the welcoming face and the orchestrator of guest experience from the moment patrons enter the restaurant until their departure. This role demands a rare blend of poise, efficiency, and genuine warmth, ensuring that each guest feels welcomed. The host’s demeanor sets the tone for the entire dining experience, reflecting the restaurant's standards of excellence and hospitality. Key responsibilities include managing reservations, planning seating to maintain the flow of the dining room, rotating sections to optimize the dining experience and assisting with table arranging as needed. This position requires a strong “client first”, foodservice background and a commitment to maintaining the high standards of the hotel. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The environment can be fast-paced, especially during peak dining hours, requiring the host to multitask efficiently while maintaining an air of calm and elegance. The host may need to stand for extended periods and must be prepared to move throughout the dining room as necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • All employees handling food must obtain a valid Food Handler Certification within 60 days of hire.
  • Employees serving alcohol must obtain TABC certification prior to performing alcohol-service duties.
  • 1-2 years of experience in hotel, country club or fine dining environment.
  • Familiarity with reservation management systems (i.e., Toast, Open Table, etc.)
  • Adjust to changing demands, rushes, or unique challenges throughout the day.
  • Strong organizational, analytical skills, and communication skills in English (verbal and written).
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
  • May require shift work, overtime and/or on call duties.

  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive, guest-service approach.
  • Positive, professional demeanor and ability to work well in a team environment.
  • May be required to work extended periods of time without relief.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Comfortable working in a busy restaurant setting assisting front-of-house operations as needed.
  • Team members are required to adhere to all uniform, grooming, and hygiene standards set by the hotel.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are essential requirements of this position.
  • Work may involve standing for extended periods, moving through crowded areas, and operating in a fast-paced, high-volume dining room environment.
  • Team members must follow all safety protocols when handling cleaning chemicals, detergents, and sanitizers, and adhere to OSHA and HACCP standards.
  • The Employee may be required to work offsite or attend special events, catering functions, or hotel-related activities as needed.
  • Hotel Granduca Houston operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Scheduling may vary based on operational needs, including shifts, start times, and total hours worked per week.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome each guest making them feel special from the outset.
  • Skillfully handle phone, online, and in-person reservations, using reservation management software to optimize table assignments and maximize dining room efficiency while honoring guest requests and preferences.
  • Anticipate special occasions or VIP guests and coordinate with management and staff to ensure exceptional service.
  • Carefully plan and execute the seating of guests, balancing the needs for timely turnover with the comfort and enjoyment of customers.
  • Communicate effectively with servers and management regarding table statuses, pacing, and special requirements.
  • When the dining room is full, manage the waitlist diplomatically, accurately estimate wait times, and update guests regularly.
  • Offer refreshments or suggest bar seating as appropriate, ensuring guests remain comfortable and engaged while they wait.
  • Proactively accommodate guests with special needs, dietary restrictions, or accessibility requirements.
  • Ensure the dining room is arranged to provide a safe, comfortable environment for all, including families, large parties, and guests with mobility challenges.
  • Monitor lighting, music, temperature, and cleanliness in the entryway and dining room.
  • Work with management to maintain an ambiance that reflects the restaurant’s brand and enhances the overall guest experience.
  • Working with the Food & Beverage Manager, assist in the planning and execution of private dining events, special occasions, or holiday services.
  • Work closely with event coordinators, management, and culinary staff to ensure smooth logistics and impeccable guest service.
  • Address guest concerns or complaints with diplomacy, empathy, and efficiency.
  • Empowered to resolve issues promptly or elevate to management as necessary, the host ensures every guest leaves with a positive impression.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate with all restaurant staff to ensure a seamless flow between front and back of house operations.
