About The Position

The Host/Hostess is the guest’s first and last impression. You’ll greet warmly, manage reservations and waitlists, pace the floor, and coordinate with servers and bar to deliver smooth, timely seating and a polished dining experience.

Requirements

  • 6+ months in a guest-facing role preferred (restaurant/hospitality a plus); will train friendly, reliable candidates.
  • Confident, professional communicator with warm presence and service mindset.
  • Comfortable with reservation and POS systems; solid phone/email etiquette.
  • Organized, calm under pressure, and accurate with wait-time quotes and details.
  • Flexible availability (nights/weekends/holidays); punctual and team-oriented.
  • Food Handler and responsible alcohol certifications preferred (or within 30 days).
  • Stand/walk for entire shift; frequent reaching, bending, and light carrying.
  • Lift/push/pull up to 20–25 lbs (menus, stanchions, highchairs).
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with occasional outdoor greeting in varying weather.

Responsibilities

  • Greeting & Seating: Welcome guests with genuine hospitality; confirm reservations; manage walk-ins; accommodate special needs/ADA seating; escort guests to tables with menus and introductions.
  • Reservations & Waitlist: Use reservation platform (e.g., OpenTable/Resy/SevenRooms) to book, quote accurate wait times, send confirmations, and manage no-shows/cancellations.
  • Floor Management: Maintain host chart and rotation; pace sections to support ticket times and service quality; communicate seatings, large parties, and VIPs to the team.
  • Guest Service & Recovery: Anticipate needs, answer questions, handle complaints with empathy, and escalate as needed; coordinate special occasions and dietary/allergy notes with servers.
  • Phones & Communication: Answer calls/emails professionally; provide hours, directions, menu info, and event details; take to-go or large-party inquiries per SOP.
  • Lobby & Ambiance: Keep entry, host stand, and restrooms tidy; monitor music/lighting and crowd flow; manage coat check where applicable.
  • Support Tasks: Prepare and stock menus and collateral; assist with table resets, water/coffee service, and expo/runner support during peaks.
  • Policies & Compliance: Follow responsible alcohol, food-safety, allergy, and privacy standards; uphold accessibility, PCI (if taking payments), and company policies.
