The Umstead Hotel & Spa Summer Internship Program Overview The Umstead Hotel & Spa’s Internship Program is designed to provide current students with a unique opportunity to gain real world experience in the industry. The goal of this program is to develop our future hospitality leaders. Program Outline Hands On Experience Each student will have a home department. This department is where they will spend the majority of their internship and will work towards becoming experts in that area. Home departments range from spa, food and beverage, front office, and housekeeping. Intern Shadow Program Throughout the program, students will spend time within the hotel departments such as spa, guest services, food & beverage, and administration. Providing this exposure to other departments will ensure the student is knowledgeable about all operations and potential career paths in hospitality. Management Classes The Human Resources team will organize classes to educate students on important luxury industry management skills. There will be 3 classes conducted that will be mandatory for interns to complete. Participants will also be required to attend one of our bi-weekly leadership meetings and one Resume meeting.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-granting hospitality program.
  • Secure housing within the area (local universities may provide summer housing for students).
  • Commit to a full time schedule as a seasonal summer employee.
  • Weekend availability required.
