About The Position

Are you passionate about addressing homelessness in New York City? Project Hospitality, the largest not-for-profit on Staten Island, is seeking a dynamic Social Worker to join Hospitality House, our Department of Homeless Service Family shelter. In this critical role, you’ll be an asset to the smooth and efficient daily operations of the family shelter. This role is geared to strengthen overall permanency outcomes for families with children in our shelter. Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Social Work and LMSW required
  • Minimum of 1-year experience working with the mentally ill and homeless populations, experience with substance abuse also preferred
  • Experience with group work, child welfare and working with families needed
  • Some supervisory experience is required
  • Knowledge of DSM IV
  • Must have exceptional communication skills both orally and in writing, with individuals and groups regarding confidential and sensitive issues
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
  • Comfortable working in a diverse, team-oriented and crisis-responsive environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct formal intake interviews; make assessments and referrals as needed
  • Complete psycho-socials and social history when applicable
  • Provide short and long-term counseling, crisis intervention, safety planning, and psycho-education
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date programmatic paperwork and statistical information
  • Assist clients in completing entitlement forms as needed
  • Make referrals for various services, such as food, clothing, bathing, psychiatric evaluations, medical evaluations, TB and HIV testing, accompanying clients as needed and handle follow-up as needed.
  • Make referrals to other service areas within Project Hospitality and the community.
  • Participate in weekly supervision, weekly staff meetings and ongoing case conferences.
  • Transport clients to appropriate referral sites when deemed necessary.
  • Promote a welcoming, trauma-informed and culturally responsive environment for families and staff
