Job Duties Patient Care Assessment, treatment and patient care responsibilities are delivered with a knowledge of patient growth and development and are appropriate to the ages of the patients served. Diagnoses, treats and prescribes for inpatients and outpatients in area of specialty within the limits of privileges; serves as attending physician of record for patients Completes all documentation in patient medical records. Educates and counsels patient, family and caregivers on medical condition, medications prescribed, plan of care and follow-up to treatment; participates in discharge planning process as appropriate. Placement of IVs, nasogastric tubes and Foley catheters are to be done by the staff nurses. If a nurse has attempted the procedure at least twice without success, the Hospitalist performs the procedure wherever and whenever possible. Abides by all hospital and Medical department rules and regulations. Is especially aware of the hospital’s policies concerning IV potassium administration, blood transfusion, IV additives/medications and chemotherapy guidelines. Is aware of consent for procedure policies and requests autopsies on all deaths when they are in attendance. Abides by all Medical record department rules. All responses should be timely, professional, caring, and respectful in accordance with Customer Service Performance expectations Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Assesses gaps in policies and procedures, and create necessary policies and procedures to fulfill these gaps. Understands and adheres to the Medical Center’s Code of Conduct HIPAA and Corporate Compliance Plan. Familiar with the Medical Center’s Mission, Vision, and Values Statements. OTHER JOB DUTIES Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall objectives of the department and organization.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school plus completion of required residency in specialty.
  • Board certification in specialty area or current active participation in the examination process.
  • Board certified Internal Medicine; or Board Qualified physicians are required to sit for and pass their Board examinations within five years of employment.
  • Evidence of formal, supervised training or clinical experience as required for certain procedures.
  • Valid and unlimited license to practice medicine in the State of New Jersey.
  • Valid license to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Demonstrated experience in area of specialty as set forth in credentialing requirements for that specialty.
  • Technical skills required for practice in specialty.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Speaks, reads and writes English to the extent required by the position.
