Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian in the state of employment.
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable.
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire.
  • Comfortable performing anesthesia and routine surgeries including spays, neuters, and dentals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate and sympathetic demeanor, maintaining professionalism in stressful situations.
  • Team player willing to learn new techniques and accept change.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent patient care by performing physical examinations, diagnosing and treating diseases, and providing preventive care.
  • Utilize a problem-based approach for developing complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and appropriate treatments.
  • Document all patient observations, findings, treatments, and client interactions in the medical record.
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures including spays/neuters, abdominal exploratory, and mass removals.
  • Perform routine and complex dental procedures including full dental examinations and extractions.
  • Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in rounds as incoming or exiting doctor at the beginning and end of shifts.
  • Disseminate knowledge throughout staff to improve care and communication.
