About The Position

This is an afternoon shift position for a Hospital Transporter at Trinity Health Livonia, a full-service, 304-bed acute care hospital located in Livonia, MI. The hospital provides comprehensive care, including a 24-hour emergency department, general medicine, inpatient and outpatient surgery, physical medicine and rehabilitation, intensive care unit, cancer, cardiology, geriatrics, and birthing and women's health. The Hospital Transporter will be responsible for transferring and transporting patients safely and effectively from Patient Care Areas to and from diagnostic/testing areas, including transporting expired patients to the morgue.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED recommended.
  • Basic cardiac life support certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior healthcare experience is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Transport stable, non-monitored patients from Patient Care Areas to and from diagnostic/testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
  • Effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and direct care providers.
  • Speak directly with the RN or Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
  • Assist the patient with restroom needs as necessary.
  • Safely transfer patients using transfer devices such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital-approved transfer devices.
  • Clean transport equipment between each patient use.
  • Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment for transports.
  • Replace oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
  • Provide directions to families and/or visitors.
  • Maintain current BLS certification.
  • Attend and participate in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
  • Provide quality patient care by considering age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs through competent clinical practice.
  • Demonstrate unit/area competencies.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships.
  • Approach conflict in a constructive manner.
  • Help identify problems, offer solutions, and participate in their resolution.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, colleagues, and visitors.
  • Discuss patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
  • Behave in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision, and Values of SJMH.
  • Assume responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, ensuring personal safety and that of coworkers, and report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.
