Career Opportunity - Inpatient Neurology/Psychiatry Pharmacist Job Description: Provides medication management services in coordination with other health care professionals to deliver safe, appropriate, and cost-effective medication therapy to patients. Responsibilities may include assessment of medication therapy regimens, medication therapy management, medication order verification/entry, medication distribution, medication therapy monitoring, and consultation, documentation of medication therapy plans, and medication use education and pharmaceutical care services. Participates in collaborative practice and/or protocol-driven practice as appropriate. Additionally, pharmacists are active members in quality improvement, research activities, and education as described in the job specific competencies. In stride with these goals, in 2023 alone, our department reached over 200 scientific publication outputs and over 80 active quality improvement projects with the Mayo Clinic Quality Academy. Nearly 250 pharmacy staff attained academic rank in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and are being increasingly recognized on regional, national, and international stages. Our department’s pharmacy residency has been accredited by ASHP since 1973. It has grown to become the primary training site for 21 pharmacy residents including 15 various specialty residencies, 12 longitudinal local pharmacy students, and 9 pharmacy summer interns from around the country. Our staff also regularly interface with and educate medical trainees including physician residents and fellows. This 1.0 FTE pharmacist position supports inpatient neurology and psychiatry patients at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus in Rochester, MN. In this role, the pharmacist will function as a member of the multidisciplinary team with a greater responsibility within neurology and neurosurgery areas. The schedule consists of a mix of day and evening shifts and every 3rd weekend rotational model. This vacancy is not eligible for sponsorship/ we will not sponsor or transfer visas for this position. Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an ACPE-accredited Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program or Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.
  • Minnesota Pharmacist license by the MN Board of Pharmacy, or eligible to obtain within a time frame compliant with the site’s applicable employee licensure policy.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience including PGY1 residency plus 1 year experience in neurology clinical practice or equivalent experience of 3 years in neurology clinical practice
  • PGY2 psychiatry residency or equivalent experience of 3 years in psychiatry clinical practice
  • Evidence of ongoing scholarly pursuits including research/quality improvement, publications, or scientific presentations
  • Relevant applicable pharmacy experience working in a progressive and collaborative practice environment
  • Experience in teaching and/or precepting
  • BCPS or BCPP within one year of hire, if not already present
