About The Position

The HB OP Coder reviews, analyzes, and assigns codes from medical record documentation to include, but not limited to, medical diagnostic and procedural information for outpatient medical and surgical encounters on the facility claim.

Requirements

• Associate degree.
• Minimum of 2 years of hospital outpatient coding experience.
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or coding credential of a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
• Experience using technical coding rules and regulations for hospital outpatient coding.
• In-depth knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
• Experience with healthcare billing and collections.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor's Degree preferred.
• Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze medical record documentation.
• Assign codes for medical diagnostic and procedural information.
• Ensure compliance with technical coding rules and regulations for hospital outpatient coding.
• Utilize Ambulatory Payment Classification (APC) logic and National Correct Coding Initiative edits (NCCI).
• Apply knowledge of Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) and National Coverage Determinations (NCD).
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of medical terminology and disease processes.
• Understand patient health record content and the medical record coding process.
• Implement principles and techniques related to compliant healthcare billing and collections.
