About The Position

To provide compassionate religious/spiritual support to employees, students, patients, and patient family members. To counsel individuals seeking guidance and assistance.

Requirements

• Masters of Divinity from an accredited association of Theological School, and 4 units of clinical pastoral education.
• One (1) year of experience as a chaplain in a hospital setting preferred.
• Experience may not be substituted for educational requirement. Ecclesiastical endorsement required.
• Certified or eligible for Chaplaincy Certification. Must obtain certification within two years of hire.
• Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions.
• Knowledge of human behavior.
• Verbal and written communication skills.
• Active listening skills.
• Compassionate interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of ethics.

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year of experience as a chaplain in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides counseling and other spiritual education activities for employees, students, and patients.
• Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering pastoral support and counseling to patients and families.
• Administers religious rites or ordinances; prepares and delivers spiritual care services.
• Studies, interprets, and teaches religious laws, doctrines, and/or traditions.
• Promotes ethical behavior within UMMC and provides consultation on ethical behavior.
• Documents spiritual counseling for patients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
