About The Position

POSITION PURPOSE: The Hospice Volunteer has an important role in actively helping Hospice companies provide quality care. The Hospice Volunteer’s roles and functions require the Volunteer serving in that capacity to be knowledgeable about current standards of practice in caring for Hospice clients. The Hospice Volunteer plays a pivotal role in providing respite services, emotional support and compassionate care. The Hospice Volunteer’s services promote the comfort and support of patients and their families. ORGANIZATION: This position reports to the Volunteer Coordinator ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The Hospice Volunteer serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group amid various settings; home care, respite, inpatient, bereavement, and/or administrative/office duties. The Hospice Volunteer serves the patient and/or family/caregiver under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator as part of the administrative team. The Hospice Volunteer serves as a substitute caregiver in the home performing activities that the volunteer has been prepared for and has agreed to perform. The volunteer may do homemaker chores, run errands, and provide respite care as well. The Hospice Volunteer documents as educated and instructed, maintaining confidentiality. The Hospice Volunteer meets all health requirements set by Principle Choice Home Healthcare & Hospice The Hospice Volunteer participates in educational training / in-services.

Requirements

  • Active Oklahoma driver’s license
  • Current car insurance and registration
  • Required vehicle
  • Medical knowledge, patience, compassion, kindness, critical thinking skills, knowledge of infection control practices, stamina, and physical endurance, observational skills, knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules, communication skills, leadership, empathy
  • Mature individual, supportive of the Hospice philosophy. Comfortable with his/her own spirituality and willing to serve others in a volunteer capacity.
  • Ability and willingness to work with the interdisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior volunteer experience is a plus.

Responsibilities
