About The Position

HOSPICE VOLUNTEER Want to give back and make a big difference in the community? Become a Hospice Volunteer at Charleston's Interim Healthcare. The administrative (non-patient) volunteer provides support services according to his/her experience and training and in compliance with organization policies. The Caregiving (patient care) volunteer provides personal care and support services according to his/her experience and training and in compliance with organization policies. This is not a paid position; it is on a voluntary basis only.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the hospice’s volunteer training and orientation program
  • Desire to be of service to others
  • Ability to work as a team member
  • Experience, knowledge or willingness to learn in area being assigned
  • Meets all health requirements set by Interim HealthCare Hospice, if applicable
  • Able to provide proof of valid driver’s license, if applicable
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Able to hear, speak, and write and read in English in a manner understood by most people
  • Able to read ten (10) point or larger type
  • Able to effectively handle multiple tasks or functions
  • Able to read and follow written instructions and document services provided
  • Able to occasionally travel locally from assignment to assignment
  • Able to frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel and reach freely
  • Able to frequently grasp with thumb in opposition to fingers of palm, i.e. manipulate pen, knobs or objects
  • Able to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds in order to carry out daily job functions and related activities that may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as an integral member of the hospice team in the administrative/office setting.
  • Participates in volunteer general orientation and additional training as appropriate to assigned duties.
  • Participates in volunteer educational in-services.
  • Completes assignments as requested and assigned.
  • Documents volunteer services accurately and appropriately
  • Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator or designee.
  • May have access to personal health information (PHI) necessary to fulfill the above duties and responsibilities.
  • Access to use and ability to disclose PHI is further defined by each organization/department.
  • Clerical/Office Work: Photocopying Filing Assisting with mailings and packet assembly Answering phones Data entry
  • Building/Office Maintenance: Cleaning Supply Management Groundskeeping
  • Special Projects: Cooking/Baking/Food Prep Sewing/Quilting Crafts
  • Community Relations: Fundraising Speaking engagements Health fairs Job fairs
  • Patient companionship/support
  • Patient caregiver companionship/support
