The Hospice Chaplain is responsible for the provision of spiritual care services to patients and families/caregivers, either directly or through coordination of care with other spiritual counselors. Requirements

  • Master's in Theology or Divinity is required.
  • Must have the ability to address spiritual care issues and concerns to all religious faiths.
  • Ability to work within the Interdisciplinary Team as required.
  • Ability to counsel patients and families and assist local clergy in rendering pastoral care.
  • A positive, compassionate and empathetic approach with patients and families.
  • A minimum of 1 unit of CPE training or other relevant experience within an accredited program (Required).
  • 1 year experience as a resident in Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • 2 years’ experience, hospice bereavement counseling experience preferred.
  • Skill in decision-making, planning, development and administration required.
  • Master’s degree in Divinity Theology required.
  • Experience with Word, Excel and email.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified or eligible for certification as a chaplain by the APC, NACC or the NAJC (Preferred). Board certification must be obtained within 3 years.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in continuing education, departmental staff meetings, hospital committees and patient conferences to enhance the continuity of care.
  • Provide compassionate support for hospice or palliative care patients and their family members.
