About The Position

This position involves providing spiritual and religious support to patients and their families, ensuring that their individual needs and beliefs are respected. The role requires collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to deliver emotional and spiritual care, particularly during crisis situations. The chaplain will engage with patients from diverse faith backgrounds and cultural contexts, facilitating decision-making processes and offering solace during challenging times.

Requirements

  • Master of Divinity degree or equivalent from an accredited school or seminary.
  • Completion of two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education.
  • Three (3) years of Hospital Chaplaincy experience.

Responsibilities

  • Visit newly admitted patients to assess their need for spiritual/emotional support and complete initial spiritual assessments as required by Medicare guidelines.
  • Provide spiritual support and interventions in a nonjudgmental manner based on patient/family wishes during various life situations and crises.
  • Offer crisis intervention to assist patients and families dealing with trauma and grief due to loss.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and team conferences, contributing to the development and review of care plans.
  • Facilitate decision-making in patient/family meetings regarding advance care planning and end-of-life issues.
  • Provide grief and bereavement support, sacramental ministry, and end-of-life care to patients, families, and staff.
  • Act as a liaison with the patient's spiritual community at their request and assist with funeral and memorial services when needed.
  • Communicate relevant patient information with other disciplines through referral systems and documentation.
  • Maintain professionalism and a positive agency image in interactions with colleagues, peers, patients, and families.
  • Serve as a resource to staff, providing in-services on differing theological views, rituals, customs, and the role of the chaplain.
  • Participate in patient care conferences, bereavement meetings, and training programs as appropriate.
  • Report compliance concerns to the CEO or Chief Compliance Officer as necessary.
  • Adhere to ethical standards set by hospital policy and chaplaincy organizations, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and confidentiality principles.
