Hospice and Palliative Care Physician, Full-time

About The Position

The Hospice & Palliative Care Physician will serve as a key clinical leader for Hospice Savannah and The Steward Center for Palliative Care, providing medical direction and comprehensive care across all service locations, including hospital inpatient consults, the Hospice Inpatient Unit, home-based hospice services, and the outpatient palliative care clinic. In this role, the physician is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of care for patients and their families, delivered in alignment with Hospice Savannah’s mission, values, and established clinical standards. The physician collaborates closely with each patient’s primary and referring physicians to ensure coordinated, goal‑concordant, and compassionate care throughout the continuum of illness. The Hospice & Palliative Care Physician will also serve as an educational resource for community physicians, healthcare partners, and interdisciplinary team members by promoting an understanding of hospice and palliative medicine principles and the benefits of Hospice Savannah and Steward Center programs. This position requires strong clinical expertise, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to supporting patients and families with dignity, comfort, and respect.

Requirements

  • Licensed Physician authorized to practice medicine in the State of Georgia.
  • Board Certification in a medical specialty relevant to end‑of‑life care, such as Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Oncology, or an equivalent field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in caring for terminally ill patients, including: A minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in a specialty providing care to patients with serious or life‑limiting illness.
  • Proven competence in the principles and practices of pain and symptom management.
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively alongside nurses, social workers, chaplains, therapists, and volunteers to achieve optimal patient and family outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to represent Hospice Savannah, the Steward Center for Palliative Care, and HSI programs to physicians, healthcare professionals, and the general public.
  • Commitment to strict confidentiality and adherence to professional, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Must be able to travel as required
