Optimal Care Hospice Aides are vital members of the interdisciplinary hospice team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to provide compassionate care that promotes comfort, safety, and dignity for patients.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training (Sixteen hours of classroom must be completed prior to a mandatory 16 hours of practical training)
  • Must hold current certification as a nurse aide and be in good standing on the state nurse aide registry
  • Sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs and bear the weight of an average adult effectively
  • Current and valid driver’s license
  • Reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance coverage
  • Demonstrated understanding of hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill in the home or facility

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1-year experience as a Hospice Aide, Home Health Aide, or Certified Nursing Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal care, including bathing, skincare, toileting, and oral hygiene
  • Support safe mobility and transfers using Hoyer lifts, wheelchairs, gait belts, and assistive devices
  • Provide companionship and emotional support to patients and caregivers
  • Assist with light household tasks such as meal prep, cleaning, and grocery shopping
  • Observe, document, and report patient care and changes in condition
  • Maintain professional boundaries while delivering care in facilities and patient homes
