About The Position

The Hospice Aide (HHA) at Sequoia Home Health & Hospice plays a vital role in providing compassionate care to patients in a home setting. This position involves working under the supervision of a registered nurse to meet the personal needs of patients, ensuring their comfort and dignity during their end-of-life journey. The aide is responsible for observing and documenting patient conditions, performing personal care tasks, and assisting with daily living activities, all while promoting safety and quality of care.

Requirements

  • Current and valid Home Health Aide Certification through the CA Department of Public Health.
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions and document care given.
  • Understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort in providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Licensed driver with an insured automobile in good working order.
  • Ability to perform prolonged or considerable walking or standing.
  • Ability to lift, position, or transfer patients and supplies.
  • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Visual acuity and hearing to perform required nursing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attend to requests promptly.
  • Meet safety needs of patients and use equipment safely and properly.
  • Provide personal care including baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen as assigned.
  • Assist in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
  • Assist in feeding the patient as assigned.
  • Take and record vital signs when ordered, demonstrating appropriate skills competency.
  • Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue.
  • Assist in ambulation and exercise as instructed by the hospice nurse or therapist.
  • Offer and assist with bedpans and urinals.
  • Provide assistance with light laundry needs as assigned.
  • Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as ordered with demonstrated skills competency.
  • Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
