The Product Support & Logistics Division (PSLD) is focused on enabling dealer capability to better serve customers. The two arms of the division - Parts Operations and Global Service - partner closely with each other to enable parts availability and service success for dealers and customers with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Global Service is focused on maximizing customer uptime, satisfaction, and loyalty through world-class service execution, technical support, and digital enablement. We are supporting our dealers in turning Service & Technician excellence into customer confidence. When you join the Dealer Service Tools organization, you will be joining a team of innovators, inventors, and doers. Our end-to-end team designs, validates, releases, and supports high quality tooling solutions for the entire Caterpillar product portfolio. This Senior Design Engineer position in the Dealer Service Tools group is aligned to support Caterpillar's Hose & Coupling Tooling but may be required to support projects from any area. You will be responsible for both new product development and current product maintenance within the portfolio of tools that are used by our Dealer Technicians every day. It's critical to provide tools that enable our Dealer Technicians to maintain and repair our customers' machines safely, efficiently, and effectively, supporting Caterpillar's Services Growth goal. This position will collaborate closely with the Hose & Coupling Product Group, as well as with internal partners (TIS, RPE, EDC-I) and suppliers, and utilizes the Building H lab for test and validation.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in an accredited Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
  • Knowledge of customer service concepts and techniques; ability to meet or exceed customer needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner.
  • Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous design experience with Hose & Coupling products and/or tools.
  • Previous hands-on experience with Hose & Coupling tooling or similar equipment.
  • Master's degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work with product groups, giving presentations, working on teams and interfacing with product group leadership when necessary.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and make decisions independently.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structured NPI tooling development per Caterpillar standard practices while meeting time, cost, and quality goals.
  • Develop Hose & Coupling tools needed to support machines across all Caterpillar product lines.
  • Execute engineering projects supporting a portfolio of over 800 tools that are used by Technicians every day.
  • Identify needs and develop specialty tooling which meets regulatory compliance for all regions.
  • Collaborate with Hose & Coupling product group to support NPI, CPI and Maintenance requirements.
  • Execute regulatory compliance projects that may require engineering design, supplier collaboration, new supplier identification, and inventory management.
  • Develop Tool Operating Manuals and Tool Articles for use in Tool News and Tool Catalog.
  • Support technical readiness for field-facing communications, including brochures and instructional videos.
  • Collaborate closely with Procurement team and Suppliers.
  • Provide technical support to address dealer inquiries from the DSN and process partners.
  • Act as the Hose & Coupling Tooling technical Subject Matter Expert (SME).
  • Creatively design tools, from pen and paper sketches to 3D modeling in Creo, that solve service problems while also being user friendly and easy to manufacture.
  • Optimize and ensure regulatory compliance by performing FEA, conducting risk assessments.
