About The Position

Oakwood Village has an exciting opportunity for qualified candidates to join our senior living community facility team as a Horticulture Assistant . Our Horticulture Assistant is responsible for assisting in maintaining all aspects of the outdoor property[campus landscaped with parkland, gardens, ponds and prairie] , maintaining indoor plants, and assisting in the preparation work of gardening and horticulture therapy. The Horticulture Assistant position is 40 hours a week Monday through Friday. MISSION We are Called to service a thriving community where seniors live with dignity, connection and purpose.

Requirements

• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis as well as be outdoors for long periods in possibly inclement weather.
• Knowledge of and/or interest in plants, landscaping practices, horticulture and/or ecology.
• Able to work independently without additional guidance or monitoring as well as work with individuals or large groups of any
• Must have an attention to detail, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Planting, watering, weeding, deadheading, pruning, transplanting, dividing, soil preparation and pest/disease monitoring for: bulbs, annuals, perennials, tropicals, shrubs, and/or trees.
• Maintaining indoor plants, including re-potting, light cleaning/organizing plants, pruning, treating for inspects/diseases, watering and fertilizing.
• Preparing for and assisting with resident garden groups and other resident garden activities.
• Safely operates and maintains equipment such as utility vehicles, weed trimmers, leaf blowers/vacuums, and landscape hand tools.
• Maintaining a clean overall appearance of the property by collecting refuse and debris, and organizing outdoor spaces.
