Horizontal Directional Drill Operator HDD operators are responsible for precise HDD placement, utilizing the latest in electronics to navigate the drill stem in a trenchless operation. HDD operators work under the supervision of the Superintendent.

Requirements

Requires a good working knowledge of underground construction and familiarity with Horizontal Directional Drills
Must have good communication skills and a positive attitude
A good work ethic
Flexibility to travel as needed
Must be able to stand or walk for long periods with repeated lifting (up to 50 lbs.), kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching
Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds of force frequently
Exertion up to 100 pounds of force occasionally
Walking on uneven terrain/surfaces
Sitting or standing for long periods of time
Reaching and lifting overhead frequently
Work environment outdoors in weather conditions that vary from freezing temperatures to heat above 90 degrees, in wet and dry conditions and in rural areas.
Work may be performed in confined spaces. Some exposure to odors, gases, dust and dirt may occur.
The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
May spend long periods of time driving and/or riding in line construction vehicles to reach remote areas of the service territory.
This position is subject to the Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) drug & alcohol testing regulations as outlined in 49 CFR Part 382 and/or 49 CFR Part 199.

Nice To Haves

Class A CDL w/ Tanker Endorsement Preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred

Responsibilities

Operate equipment, including, but not limited to: Vermeer directional drills, backhoe, excavators.
Individuals must be able to read prints and have knowledge of the underground processes.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
The ability to work safely, with or without supervision.
Operator must always be knowledgeable of all typical safety procedures and be able to apply them.
Other duties as required for business purposes.
Other responsibilities as directed.
