About The Position

Homesura is seeking a Homecare Authorization Specialist to manage and track service authorizations to ensure clients receive uninterrupted, timely homecare services. In this role, you will verify eligibility, submit authorization requests, monitor approvals, and resolve discrepancies that could impact care or billing. You’ll work closely with MN DHS, Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), Lead Agencies/County Case Managers, and internal teams to maintain compliance, prevent service gaps, and protect organizational revenue. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and comfortable working in high-volume authorization environments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (associate degree preferred).
  • 1–3 years of experience in healthcare authorization, medical office administration, billing, case management, or payer coordination.
  • Experience using state authorization systems, payer portals, or managed care platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with documentation.
  • Excellent follow-through and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and professional phone/email etiquette.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with Medicaid, managed care plans, waivers, or state-funded programs.
  • Familiarity with clinical documentation, service codes, and prior authorization regulations.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, healthcare privacy requirements, and payer authorization rules preferred
  • Experience in high-volume or fast-paced documentation and authorization environments.
  • Must pass a background study with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
  • All employees working remotely will be required to adhere to company remote work policies

Responsibilities

  • Monitor authorization status daily and follow up to ensure timely receipts, approvals and uninterrupted services.
  • Identify gaps that could lead to claim denials and collaborate with billing teams to resolve issues.
  • Submit authorization requests to Minnesota DHS and MCOs.
  • Track authorization expiration dates and submit renewals in advance.
  • Resolve issues related to missing, incorrect, or denied authorizations.
  • Verify client eligibility through state or payer systems.
  • Ensure documentation meets payer, regulatory, and HIPAA standards.
  • Serve as primary contact for authorization questions from state agencies, payers, and internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of all authorization activity in internal systems.
