The Homemaker/Companion provides homemaking and/or companion services to patients enabling them to remain in the home by supplementing the patient and family/caregiver abilities for home management in accordance with company standards and federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations. Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must successfully complete all sections of the Homemaker written test and completes the Homemaker skills testing by return demonstration.
One year experience as a homemaker/ companion for an adult or family member required.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Must be insurable under professional liability and crime coverage policies as specified by insurance carrier underwriting standards.

Responsibilities

Provides homemaking services, such as bed making, light housework, laundering.
Plans, shops, prepares, or assists with nutritious meals and prescribed diets, which includes the clean-up of kitchen area.
Accompanies patient to medical appointments as specified in the care plan.
Runs errands with patient/family’s agreement.
Provides companionship and socialization for the patient.
Observes the patient for changes in general physical and mental conditions.
Reports any changes noted to the nurse.
Reminds patients to take their medication as prescribed and scheduled.
Assists to maintain safety in the home.
Notifies nurse of safety concerns.
Adheres to the documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
All other duties as assigned.
