About The Position

Homebound instruction is an alternative method of providing educational services for students in grades K-12 who are unable to attend school because of temporary, or permanent disability. The HomeboundOffice determines eligibility based on medical information submitted by a physician, licensed clinical psychologist, or psychiatrist. This is a short-term service provided for a minimum period of two weeks.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of subject(s); thorough knowledge of education principles, practices and procedures; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff, students and parents; ability to operate a personal computer.
  • This work requires an ability to have a flexible, part-time schedule based on student availability and need. Instruction may occur in students’ homes, libraries, hospitals, or virtually, depending on circumstances. If virtual, sessions must be recorded. Travel to students’ locations may be required.
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
  • Must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in education or a related field.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Collegiate Professional License, Postgraduate Professional License or Provisional License with appropriate endorsement to teach specific subject area.

  • Tuberculin skin test or screening results

Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one instruction to students in their home or designated location, or virtually.
  • Collaborate with students’ classroom teachers to align instruction with the current curriculum and academic standards.
  • Prepare and deliver individualized lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to parents/guardians, school personnel,and administration.
  • Maintain accurate records of instruction time, lesson delivery, and student progress.
  • Communicate regularly with families and school staff to support the student’s academdevelopment and return to school.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and district policies.
